Pay while you heal

Pay while you recover, and a fair rating if the injury stays.

If your doctor takes you off work or limits what you can do, workers' compensation can pay part of your lost wages while you heal. If the injury leaves a lasting limit, it can pay for that too.

We check the weekly amount, chase checks that come late, and make sure the doctor's rating says what your body can actually do.

What we check

  • Weekly checks while you cannot work

  • Pay when light duty means a lower wage

  • A rating for a lasting injury

  • A settlement offer, read line by line

Three terms, in plain words

  • Temporary benefits

Paid while you recover and your doctor says you cannot do full duty.

  • Impairment rating

A doctor's number for lasting loss. It can change what you are paid, so we check it.

  • Settlement

A one-time payment that closes part or all of a claim. Once it is signed, it is hard to undo.

Questions we hear about this

Will I be paid my full wages?

Usually a share of them, up to a limit. The amount and the waiting period depend on where you work.

Can I be made to go back on light duty?

If your doctor clears it and the job fits your limits, you may be asked. If it does not fit, tell us before you go back.

Should I take the settlement the insurer offered?

Not before someone reads it. Closing a claim can end your medical care too.
